Should I hire a freelancer or an agency to fix my vibe coded app?

Updated October 2026By

Quick answer

A freelancer for one clear bug or a short review, an agency or product team when the app takes money, holds personal data, or needs to be finished and then kept running. The deciding question is who answers next month when it breaks again.

Both can do the work. The difference is scope and what happens afterward. A freelancer is one person with a calendar. An agency or product engineering team is several people with a process, which costs more and covers more.

Choose a freelancer when:

  • You can name the bug in one sentence. Password reset emails do not arrive. The dashboard is blank on the custom domain.
  • The code is already in a GitHub repository you own, so handover is an invite.
  • No money changes hands in the app yet, and it holds no sensitive data.
  • You want a second opinion before a bigger decision. A short paid review is a good freelancer job.

Choose an agency or product team when:

  • The list of problems is longer than three items, or you do not know what the list is.
  • The app takes payments or stores personal data. Access rules, webhooks and backups need to be fixed together, and tested together.
  • You need the last 10% finished, not just the current bug closed.
  • You want someone on call afterward. Ongoing care is $100–$5,000 a month, and it is rarely something a single freelancer offers reliably.
  • Investors, a customer or a security questionnaire will ask who maintains the app.

Lovable's own partner program draws the same line. Its Expert track is for individual freelancers and agencies under five people. Its Solution Partner track is for agencies, consultancies and systems integrators. Both are certified on work they have shipped, and both earn commission on Lovable subscriptions they bring in, so ask any partner how they are paid.

Money and time. A freelancer fix is €99–$990 and about two days. An agency cleanup is $1,500–$15,000 over one to eight weeks. Either can do a check or audit for $49–$800. The pricing page has the full bands and the directory lists teams that do this work.

Red flags that apply to both. They ask for your passwords or your secret key over chat. They quote a rebuild without reading the code or database. They want the repository or database moved into their account. They will not put code ownership in writing. They say they will fix bugs as they come up instead of giving you written findings first.

Get help choosing when you are not sure what is broken. In that case the first purchase is a check or audit from either side, and the result tells you which kind of help you need. What to check before you pay has the questions to ask.

Check these

CODE-01High

The code lives in a Git repository you own

Connect GitHub or export the project. If the builder account is lost, the product should not be.

DATA-03Critical

One user cannot open another user's records

Sign in as user A, copy a request from the Network tab, and change the record ID to one that belongs to user B. You should get an error or an empty result.

PAY-01Critical

Paid accounts are unlocked by a verified payment webhook

Access should change only when your server receives a signed webhook from Stripe or your provider, not when the browser reaches a success page.

OPS-03High

Errors reach you before users do

Add error monitoring and uptime alerts. If you learn about outages from customers, this is missing.

Related questions

Is an agency always more expensive than a freelancer?

Per hour, usually. Per finished app, not always. A freelancer who fixes one bug a week for three months can cost more than a team that fixes the list in two weeks, and the team leaves you with tests and notes.

Can a freelancer and an agency work on the same app?

Yes, if the code is in a Git repository you own and both work through pull requests. Problems start when two people edit the live project inside the builder at the same time.
