What you see. Your domain in Lovable has shown Verifying or Setting up for hours, and the site is not reachable there.
Why it happens
Lovable connects a domain in two stages. Verifying means it is looking for two DNS records at your registrar: an A record pointing to 185.158.133.1 and a TXT record at _lovable whose value starts with lovable_verify=. If either is missing, mistyped or hidden behind a proxy, verification cannot finish, and after one hour the status becomes Unable to verify.
Setting up means verification passed and Lovable is issuing the SSL certificate. That stalls when a CAA record at your registrar forbids Lovable's certificate authorities, or when stray AAAA or old A records still point elsewhere. Cloudflare users hit this most, because the orange cloud proxy hides the real record. DNS changes usually apply within hours but can take up to 72 hours, so a status that looks stuck may simply be waiting.
Fix it yourself
- In Lovable open Settings → Domains, click the three dots next to the domain and choose Configure to see the exact A and TXT values.
- At your registrar, compare each record character by character. The TXT host is
_lovablefor a root domain. Remove any AAAA records and old A or CNAME records for the same host. - On Cloudflare, set the Lovable records to DNS only, the grey cloud, not Proxied. Lovable's docs tie errors 1001 and 1003 to this.
- Back in Lovable click Check status. If the status is Stalled or Failed, click Retry rather than deleting the domain.
- If stuck on Setting up, look for CAA records at your registrar. Allow letsencrypt.org, pki.goog and ssl.com, or remove the CAA block.
- Make sure the project is published and you are on a paid plan. Then add the new domain to your auth redirect URLs so sign-in works on it.
When to get an engineer
Most founders finish this alone. Hire when your registrar panel is confusing, when the domain also runs email you cannot risk breaking, or when sign-in fails after the domain goes live. An engineer needs registrar access or a screenshot of all records, plus the Lovable domain status. This is a one-off check at the bottom of the $49–$800 band, usually done in a day. See our Lovable guide for the rest of launch.

Questions
How long should Verifying take?
Lovable says DNS changes usually apply within a few hours but can take up to 72 hours. After one hour without detection it shows Unable to verify, which clears once the records are right.
Do I need to re-add the domain after a failure?
No. Lovable's docs say to click Retry on Stalled or Failed. Deleting and re-adding only restarts the wait.
