What you see. The Lovable Publish dialog says Build errors need fixing, and the live site stays on the old version.

Why it happens

Publishing in Lovable deploys a snapshot of your current code. Before it goes live, the code has to build, which means every file must compile without errors. When the latest changes fail to build, the dialog shows a Build errors need fixing notice and replaces the publish button with Try to fix. Your visitors keep seeing the last good publish, so nothing is lost yet.

Build errors usually come from the last few prompts: a component that imports a file the AI renamed, a type mismatch after a database change, or a dependency added half way. The preview can still look fine because it is more forgiving than the production build. A different case is a Publishing failed banner after the build passed. Lovable's docs tie that to temporary problems such as a timeout, or external ones such as an expired Supabase connection, and offer Try again instead.

Fix it yourself

  1. Open the Publish dialog and read the error summary. Click Try to fix once. You get 10 free fixes, each available again 24 hours after use.
  2. If the same error returns, switch to Plan mode and ask Lovable to explain the cause before changing code, as its debugging guide recommends.
  3. If the error started after a specific prompt, open History, find the version with the Published badge or a later working one, and click Revert.
  4. For a Publishing failed banner, fix what it names, for example reconnect Supabase, then click Try again.
  5. Once the build passes, click Publish changes and open the live URL in a private window to confirm.

When to get an engineer

Hire when the error points at your database types or auth code, when Try to fix has looped more than twice, or when reverting would lose features you need. Share the project link, the exact error summary from the dialog and the GitHub repo that Lovable syncs. A single fix is €99–$990 and takes about 2 days. Read Lovable stuck in a fix loop if it keeps happening.

Check these

CODE-01High

The code lives in a Git repository you own

Connect GitHub or export the project. If the builder account is lost, the product should not be.

CODE-04Medium

Dependencies are current and audited

Run npm audit. Critical advisories in packages you ship should be fixed before launch.

CODE-03Medium

Dead code and duplicate components are removed

Search for components with near-identical names. Three versions of one button means three places to fix every bug.

OPS-03High

Errors reach you before users do

Add error monitoring and uptime alerts. If you learn about outages from customers, this is missing.

Questions

Is my live site down while the build fails?

No. Lovable says the live app reflects your last published snapshot. Visitors see the old version until a new build passes and you publish.

Does Try to fix cost credits?

Lovable's debugging guide says your account includes 10 free fixes, each becoming available again 24 hours after use. Asking Lovable to publish in chat does use credits.
